WOODMAN.
  • (The following record, a few facts in which are made up from the records of Middlesex County, and the remainder from an old, dilapidated Bible, once thrown into the waste heap but now in the possession of Charlotte (Woodman) Ham, of this city, a daughter of Charles C. Woodman, is here printed for the purpose of preservation. The data are not to be found in the register's office of the city of Boston, although most, if not all, the children of David and ElisabethcWoodman were born there. David Woodman, son of Samuel, was born in Newburyport, Aug. 13, 1786, and died in East Boston, Nov. 25, 1853. He was a baker in Boston. He bought a farm in Medford, near the village of South Woburn, April 1, 1846, and lived there with his sons, Hiram and Webster. This farm was afterwards sold, and, in 1851, he bought of Nathaniel P. Wiggin an estate on the westerly side of Main Street in the southerly part of Winchester, and was living there at the time of his sudden death by heart disease, while on a visit to Boston. he was buried at Mount Auburn. His wife was Elisabeth Trusdell, born July 9, 1789. They were married in 1807. She survived her husband many years and died in Dorchester. Their children, all of whom are believed to have been born in Boston, were: (1.) Albert, b. May 14, 1808, d. March 10 1834. (2.) David, b. July 16, 1809, mar. Caroline Warner, May, 1833, and d. Oct., 1855. He lived in St. Louis and afterwards in Janesville, Wis., and had children, Josiah H. and David. (3.) Charles H., b. June 9, 1812; d. Oct. 13, 1812. (4.) Elizabeth, b. Sept. 27, 1814, mar. Joshua Norton, a merchant of Boston, Sept., 1838. (5.) Joseph H., b. April 4, 1816. He lived in St. Louis and afterwards in Vincennes, Ind. His wife's name was Mary Ann. (6.) Hannah Jane, b. Oct. 4, 1817, mar. Charles Philip Lewis, a merchant of Dorchester. (7.) Susan B., b. Oct. 14, 1818, mar. Thomas T. Ordway of Winchester and later [1858] of Dorchester. (8.) Charlotte P., b. March 22, 1819, d. Aug. 4, 1819. (9). Charlotte, b. May 22, 1821, mar. Josiah Hovey of Winchester, and died May 31, 1857. (10) Hiram, b. Nov. 28, 1823. His wife's name was Rebecca L., and he was living in New York in 1858. (11.) A daughter, stillborn, April 25, 1825. (12.) Lydia Courier, b. May 2, 1826, d. May 3, 1826. (13.) Daniel Webster, b. May 4, 1828. He lived in New York and was unmarried in 1858. (14.) Charles C., b. Nov. 27, 1829, mar. Harriet J. Fox, at Winchester, Oct. 15, 1852, and died in New York, July 12, 1867. (15.)
