Member of the Committee of Correspondence and Safety; Lieutenant on the alarm list; served as Private in Capt. Parker's Company in the battle of April 19, 1775; Captain of the detachment at Cambridge, may 16 and June 17, 1775; First Lieutenant and Quartermaster, Capt. Mile's Company, Col. Reed's Regiment, on the Northern frontier, and at Ticonderoga, July-Nov., 1776; Captain, Col. Bigelow's (Fifteenth) Regiment; service with the Northern Army at Bennington and Saratoga, and so distinguished himself that after the capture of Burgoyne he was presented by his superior officers with a pair of candlesticks taken from Burgoyne's equipage; joined the army under Washington, and was killed in the battle of Monmouth, June 28, 1778; for seven years after his death his widow received the half pay allowed by Congress.

They drove away the privateer, killing some of her crew, but with the loss of their Captain, Nathaniel Springer.
