The necrology of the early years of the town is very brief. The inscriptions on a few crumbling stones in the cemeteries, and the short lists of deaths given in connection with the family birth records, contain it all until 1792, when Dr. Hyde commenced his admirable Church Records, included in which is a carefully recorded list of the deaths which occurred in town during his pastorate. The death of Pelatiah WEST is given after the birth record of Elijah & Marah WEST's children, and the deaths of several of the CROCKER family, after the birth record of Joseph & Polly CROCKER's children; but except as connected with the records of births, there is no registry of a death on the Town Records until that of Molly CASEY, May, 1795, and there is no other recorded until 1797. Scattered here and there on several of the pages allotted to the birth records, are entries of some of the deaths in town between 1797 and 1804 - the list of 1799 being nearly complete. In 1804 a systematic record ws commenced, and has been continuously kept. These scattered entries, and also those deaths noticed in the preceding Records of Births, are here arranged chronologically. Some of the dates and ages given in this record, Dr. Hyde's, and in the inscriptions in the cemeteries do not correspond.
